Friendswood Hires Koopmann To Replace Longtime Coach Van Meter

2012 Coaching Change: Friendswood Mustangs
Old Head Coach: Steve Van Meter -- Retiring after leading the Mustangs to a 148-80-1 record over the past 20 seasons. His coaching record puts him just over the Top 200 all-time winningest coaches in texas high school football history. Coach Van Meter was a wide receiver and defensive back on the 1973 Friendswood state championship football team. He began coaching with the Mustangs in 1981. He became the head coach in 1992.
New Head Coach: Robert Koopmann -- Has been an assistant or offensive coordinator at Friendswood since 1994.
Team News: 2011 ended an 8 year winning streak for the Mustangs. They will remain in District 24-4A and will be teamed up with Baytown Goose Creek Memorial, Baytown Lee, Galena Park, Galveston Ball, Pearland Dawson, Santa Fe and Texas City.
