2012 LSG Texas High School Football Team Preview — Van Alstyne Panthers

Team: Van Alstyne Panthers (6-2A Division I)

Stadium: Panther Stadium (Capacity: 3,500)

Enrollment: 422 -- 4th largest in the district out of 7 schools

Coach: Mikeal Miller (3 years) 27-8 at Van Alstyne; 27-8 All-Time Coaching Record

Mike Says: The Panthers will use a strong offensive line led by the Mayes brothers, Connor and Alex. With them up front, the running game should be a good one. The defense led by DL White will need to improve after giving up over 30 points per game last year. Look for them to make the playoffs as the 2nd or 3rd team in the district and finish the regular season at 6-4 or 7-3.

Chris Says: The drop to Class 3A will help Van Alstyne, but there are a couple factors that will be working against them as well. Their JVs record of 2-8 does not bode well for the players moving up to Varsity and with only 4 offensive and 5 defensive starters returning, those new players will have to step up fast. They will also go into postseason without a lot of experience against playoff-caliber teams - that could mean and early postseason exit.
