* They made it to the Championship game 2 years ago and followed that up with a run to the quarterfinals last year.

Mike Says: The Cougars will be a favorite to win it all this year. Coach Jackson returns 7 starters from the top defense in 24-4A. He also has 3 Offensive linemen off the top offense in 24-4A. His skill kids on offense are young but fast. The main competition in district play will come from a few tough ones in West Columbia and Sweeny. Surprisingly, the Cougars will go Division II in the playoffs having less enrollment than West Columbia. They will play a very tough schedule that will feature a non-district game against Coldspring-Oakhurst. Look for them to go 8-2 or 9-1 in the regular season and win the district title. Once in the playoffs it gets fun with regional competition coming from Coldspring-Oakhurst, West Orange-Stark, Navasota and Waco La Vega.

Chris Says: I cant remember when a team had more hype about dropping down in class and the La Marque Cougars have over dropping down to Class 3A. Most pundits are already writing them in for the state championship game. These Cougars will do exceptional this year, but they are going to have to earn a trip to the state championship. Class 3A is absolutely loaded with talented teams and if they do make it to a title game, they will have earned it.
