Coaches Comments: This year’s team should be similar to 2012. Strongest area on offense should be Offensive Skill Players. Strongest area on defense should be Defensive Line/Secondary. Team should be pretty balanced offensively and defensively this year! Our 2013 offense is going to be an exciting one. We are looking forward to a great quarterback competition between Jordan Reyes and Mark Femat. Jordan is the younger brother of Matt Reyes who started at QB for us during the 2008 & 2009 seasons. Mark started on defense for us last year and brings a versatile style with his ability to run and throw. We have some very good receivers coming back in starter Khalil Williams, returner Gabriel Valles, returner David Torres (also started in the secondary). Offense: We will be adding explosive newcomers Alex Perez and Aaron Villalobos who led our JV to a 9-1 mark in 2012. Another junior Enrique Gonzalez shows great promise at receiver as does sophomore Randy Thomas. We are expecting a solid contribution from Shadrenae Gladman at running back as well as Melvin Webb. Shad will be a soph. and Melvin will be a junior. We are also returning Eddie Barrios at Guard and Albert Flores at Tackle. We are looking for significant contributions from Jason Skov at center and sophomore Fernie Solis at guard. Alex Perez is also an exceptional kicker who should be the best we have had since his brother Kevin who was an Associated Press All-State Kicker and Punter for us in 2005 and 2006. Defense: I am very excited about our 2013 defense. We have 1st Team All-District Defensive End Nikko Castro back as well as returning starter Hector Candia. Our defensive line should be the strength of our defense. We are looking forward to varsity returners Silvestre Ceniceros and Travis Fox anchoring our inside linebacker positions as well as Mark Femat and Dallas Kyle at the outside linebacker positions. We also have David Torres returning at safety and we are looking forward to newcomers Albert Candia, Gabriel Colunga, and Melvin Webb helping us in the secondary as well. D’Shay Crawford will challenge at LB for playing time also. We have a host of young players from our Freshman and JV squads who will vie for playing time and create competition at most every position. Outlook: On paper we are losing 32 letterman and returning only 14. However, I am very excited about the players that we have coming up from the JV and Freshmen teams. We had an outstanding year on the JV last year with several talented individuals ready to step up and help us on the varsity. I believe this will be a year in which we have a very balanced team on both sides of the ball. Our offense should evolve as the season goes along and our defense should be solid from the get go. I am very excited about the kicking game and I believe we will be awfully good in that area. District Outlook: 1.Hanks 2.Del Valle 3.Canutillo 4.Horizon 5.Eastlake 6.Ysleta 7.Riverside 8. Parkland 9.San Elizario

2012 JV Record: 9-1

  • Mike Says: The Knights enjoyed their first season in Class 4A last year making the playoffs for the first time since 2007. This years team does not return much from that team. They do have a strong JV team coming up though and they will have a solid defense. Look for them to win 6 to 8 games in the regular season and get the 3rd or 4th playoff spot.
  • Chris Says: Look for El Paso Hanks to put together another fine season that includes a District 2-4A title.  Sure, there is some talent in the district and sure, they return only 4 starters on each side of the ball, but the core of their skill positions as well some great defensive returners lead me to think the new players will pick it up quickly.   Once in the playoffs, the sledding quickly gets tougher so I expect no more than two rounds of play.
