Coaches Comments: Strengths of 2013 Team: Offense: Quarterback; Offensive Line, Defense: Linebackers; Defensive Line. The 2013 B.F. Terry Ranger football program will battle numbers and player/personnel losses due to the addition of another high school to the district. This year’s squad will be returning 16 letterman, including eight or nine juniors/sophomores that played (some started) last season, garnering important playing time in three play-off games. After numerous staff changes that saw the offensive and defensive coordinators move onto successful 5A programs, the offense and defense will have a decidedly new look this year. Offensively, we will be looking to control the football by running it more behind an experience line and with two dangerous returning running backs. Defensively, we will be implementing the 3-4 scheme (50 defense) to enhance the return of several players returning from last year’s squad. Offensive starters to keep an eye on this fall will be dynamic QB Kishawn McClain (Sr) operating the split-back veer (931 yards rushing, 14 TD’s & 674 yards passing with 11 TD’s: 1,605 total yards, 25 total TD’s, 156 total points … with those numbers coming in just half a season) and two explosive running backs, Ricky Blackburn (Sr), Michael Maxwell (Jr) and Ni’Quan Miller. They will running behind experienced senior offensive linemen George Vela and Bryan San Jose (both started 13 games), and young, promising offensive linemen, Christian Rainer (Jr), Jonathan Lopez (Soph) with tight end Donald Dorsey (Sr) working the perimeter. High hopes abound in (Sr) Dimetri Amerson, Tyler Wilson (Sr), Manny Mancilla and Josh Cedillo at receivers. Defensively, we will be relying on the strength of our linebacker corps and defensive line. The inside linebacker crew of Brandon Martinez, Jeremy Arriaga and Dominique Thomas will bring high expectations from the staff with outside linebackers Ivan Hinojosa, Matt Roberts and Kishawn McClain (returning team leader in tackles, INT’s, sacks, fumble recovery & tackles for loss) not far behind. The front will be anchored by Kellen Howard (Sr), Unanimous All-District Selection along with Kendall Oliver, Rafael Betancourt, Zach Garcia, Roderick Jones and Demontrail Scott. The secondary returns Drake James and Neilson Williams with a host of young, athletic players Kevin Reid, Ni’Quan Miller, Michael Maxwell and Troy Maxwell. McClain will handle the punting chores for the Rangers and the staff is looking for big things from (Soph) Roy Rocha in handling kick-offs and field goals and PAT’s. The Rangers begin with a tough AAAAA non-district slate along with a perennial AAAA playoff program, Friendswood. The Rangers need to get momentum early, see some major improvements in a few areas and stay healthy on their way to beginning district play. District 23-AAAA is loaded with physical, talented and well-coached teams vying for four playoff spots. The Rangers are expecting to be in the mix come November.

- Mike Says: The Rangers had their 2nd consecutive 9 win season last year going to the Regionals. This years team will depend a lot on do everything player Kishawn McClain. Look for them to win 6-8 games and compete with Angleton for the district title and go 2 or 3 rounds in the playoffs.
- Chris Says: Tim Tekyl is not only one of my favorite coaches, he is one of my favorite people - a smart, funny and genuine person... and a heck of a good coach too! Half of his starting Rangers will return this season and they should be cued up for a title game at Angleton for the final regular season match. Regardless of first or second in district, Terry will go into the playoffs looking for more than last season. That is a tall order, but they should match last years results.
