2015 Lone Star Gridiron Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year

Winner: QB Tanner Schafer (Canadian)

Quarterback Tanner Schafer of the Canadian Wildcats earned the title of Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year for the 2nd year in a row. The Canadian Senior completed 292 passes on 377 attempts for 4,053 yards and 49 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. Schafer led the Wildcats to win the Division I State Championship for the 2nd year in a row. For his career he has 568 completions on 776 attempts for 7,907 yards and 100 touchdowns. His 4,053 yards passing this year was good enough for 7th place in the entire state. This is the 2nd year in a row that Schafer won this award.

2. QB Roshaaud Paul (Bremond)

The Junior quarterback, Paul also put up some impressive numbers in the 2015 season. He ran and passed his team to a second consecutive state championship. Paul burst on the scene last year leading the Tigers to a championship in his Sophomore season. Paul finished the season with 2,248 yards passing and 2,008 yards rushing with a total of 64 touchdowns. The 2,008 yards rushing put him in 31st place in list of the states leading rushers. His career numbers now stand at 3,793 yards passing and 3,680 yards passing with 103 total touchdowns.  Look for him to be an early favorite to be in this list next season as well.

3. RB Chance Cook (Canadian)

Chance Cook makes the 2015 Class 2A Offensive Player of the Year list as a Runner-up. He was a dual threat runner and receiver earning a combined 2,528 yards and had 39 total touchdowns. He also had a punt return and an interception return for touchdowns. He finishes his career with 5,328 total yards and 82 total touchdowns. He had 2,097 yards rushing on the season which put him in 26th place for the states leading rushers.

4. QB Glenn Thornton (Groveton)

Groveton quarterback Glenn Thornton had an amazing year in the 2015 season. Thornton ended the season as the states 3rd leading passer with 4,191 yards. He is a Junior so look for him to add to his already impressive passing numbers.

5. QB Derrick Ponder (Bells)

Bells quarterback Derrick Ponder capped an amazing high school career by adding to history making numbers in the 2015 season. Ponder ended the season with 4,001 yards and 47 touchdowns passing. He ended the season as the states #9 leading passer. For his career, he had 8,323 yards and 94 touchdowns.
