Team Breakdowns
Geronimo Navarro
Notes: 11 CONSECUTIVE WINNING SEASONS
We are looking at one of the top teams in the state that is about to have a very special season. Tragedy struck the Geronimo community just a few short weeks ago when 15 tear old Michael Kevin Michael Pinegar "Mick" passed away after a traumatic brain injury suffered while riding his motorcycle. He was a much loved member of the school, community and football team. The Navarro school and surrounding communities have come together first in pray vigils while he clung to life and then in memory of him as he passed - displayed publicly as purple ribbons dotting the landscape throughout his community.
The tragedy is not why the Geronimo Navarro Panthers will do well - they were set to do that anyway. This is a GOOD team! In fact, this is a state championship team. The unity brought about in troubling times however can build strength in the strongest of programs. Coach Les Goad's 11-1 team of last season returns 12 starters including LB Jake Wright (2-time district MVP) and RB Tanner Law. They will be solid on both sides of the ball and are expected to be playing that final week in December.

Coaches Comments: We have a very strong Senior Class. Our pre-district schedule is very challenging. If we can mature on both LOS and survive our pre-district schedule we should contend for another District Championship and make a strong Playoff Run. District Outlook : Wimberley will be much improved and Llano should be the dark horse. We should contend with Wimberley for the Championship.

Wimberley
Notes: 13-12 over the last 2 years
1 winning season in the last 3 years
The Texans look to have one of their best teams in several years. Coach Doug Warren has 8 starters returning on each side of the ball from a team that started slow and then stormed to the 3rd round of of the playoffs last season. Now that they know what it feels like to win again in Wimberley, they will do everything they can to return. LB Ben Garza is a standout on defense that is always around the ball and on the offense, look for massive OT Ian Burnette to open up serious holes for RB Hunter Williams. The scary thing about the Texans is that many feel that with such skill at the underclassmen levels, their peak may not even come for a year or two.

Coaches Comments: We have a lot of returners so we should build on the momentum that we generated in the last part of the season. We will need for guys to step up on the offensive and defensive lines. District Outlook : Navarro is the district champ and is the favorite until they are knocked off. Everyone else will be improved so it should be a good, competitive district race.

Llano
Notes: 5 year losing streak
Llano is one of those teams that benefits from being in a very small district - when 80% of the district goes to the postseason, you can get in with only 1 or 2 district victories. Expect that of the Yellow Jackets and expect a quick postseason run.
Enrollment: 493 (Smallest in the district out of 5 schools)

Bandera
Notes: 6 year losing streak
Moving down from Division I to Division II
Bandera not only drops down to DII, but they drop right into a tiny district with only two really strong teams. That means a 2-8 team from last season is looking like a likely playoff team this time around.
Enrollment: 673 (2nd Largest in the district out of 5 schools)

2-8-0 Coaching Record @ Bandera

Hondo
Notes: 2 consecutive non-winning seasons
Current streak ended a 5 year winning streak
Hondo returns 13 starters so has reason to be optimistic about this season. If fact, they will be in the playoff hunt right up to the last regular season game. Only one team will miss the postseason so Hondo has a really good shot at grabbing one of the last playoff tickets.
Key Returning Players
QB/DB Garrett Van Damme
RB/LB Kevin Gear
FB Matt Deleon
