Can this be the year that Newton returns to the state championship game for the 6th time? They were last there in 2014 in a loss to Waskom and last won it in 2005 over Argyle. They have a very good chance of doing just that. East Bernard too won it in 2012 when in class 2A but want to get one at the 3A level. Gunter would like to spoil both those plans by returning for their 2nd straight state title. Lexington has been their twice but came away a runner-up both times. All that title talk and we have yet to mention Canadian who feels they have a team that can get back for their 3rd in the last four years. There are a ton of teams with title experience, in fact, you have to go all the way down to #10 before you get to a team that has never been to the title game - West Rusk... and you know what? They and other newcomers to the big game could surprise the lot.
