Malakoff Tigers (12-2) vs. Grandview Zebras (13-2) UIL Class 3A DI Texas High School Football State Championship.
The Grandview Zebras beat the Malkoff Tigers in the Class 3A DI Texas High School Football State Championship game 35-21.
The teams traded punts twice each to start the game. Malakoff finally got the first 1st down of the game with 6:37 left in the 1st quarter. The Tigers made it to the Zebra where they went for it on 4th and 2 and came up short. Grandview ball with 4:31 left in the first quarter. Two plays later, the Zebras earned their first 1st down of the game. Malakoff defensive back Kaderrious Thomas got the first touchdown of the game when he intercepted the ball at the 33 and returned it for a touchdown. The Tigers led 7-0 with 3:34 left in the first. Grandview was at the Tiger 4 yard line when the first quarter ended.

Grandview quarterback Dane Jentsch hit Cooper Deans for a 4 yard touchdown pass on the first play of the 2nd quarter. The extra point tied it at 7. Malakoff responded with a quick drive that paid off when Keevie Rose (1,425 yards and 17 touchdowns rushing on the season) ran it in from 1 yard out. The Tigers led 14-7. On Grandviews punt the ball bounced and hit the returner in the foot and the ball was recovered by Grandview. Two plays, later a short pass to Jacob Patterson went 53 yards for the score and the Zebras now led 21-14 with 3:30 remaining in the half. Malakoff had a good drive until Zebra defensive back Ryan Schronk intercepted the pass. Grandview had the ball at their own 42 with 47 seconds left. The quarter ended with the 21-14 score.

After they punted, Malakoff got on the board with a 44 yard pass from quarterback Darion Peace (2,103 yards 28 touchdowns during the season) to Andreas Garrett. The extra point tied the game up at 21. Grandview had the ball in Malakoff territory as the quarter ended.
