Alvin Shadow Creek Sharks (15-0) vs. Dallas Highland Park (15-0) UIL Class 5A DI Texas High School Football State Championship.
The Dallas Highland Park Scots beat the Alvin Shadow Creek Sharks 27-17 in the Class 5A Division I Championship game. It was Highland Park's 6th championship in their 9th championship game. This was their 3rd championship in a row. Alvin Shadow Creek was competing in their first championship game in just their first varsity season. The Highland Park defense broke a championship record with 9 sacks in the game. Shadow Creek Quarterback Jamarian George broke a championship record with a 99 yard run.
Highland Park receiver Finn Corwin returned the opening kickoff to the Shadow Creek 28 yard line. Three plays later Bennett Brown caught a 8 yard pass from Chandler Morris (NCAA Coach Chad Morris' son) to make the score 7-0. Shadow Creek made a few first downs but punted on their first possession and pinned the Scots back at their 13. The Sharks intercept the ball when Xavion Alford picks it off and returns it to the Scot 11. Two plays later quarterback Jamarian George hit Jared Jackson for a 14 yard score. The extra point was not good to make the score 7-6. The teams traded possession then Highland Park got a 3 yard touchdown pass to Andrew Bonnett to take a 14-6 lead. The Sharks had the ball at the Scot 3 yard line as the quarter ended.
Shadow Creek could not punch it in an settled for a 24 yard field goal to make the score 14-9. The Scots return their kickoff to the Shark 35 yard line but it is called back by a penalty. The teams trade punts and Highland Park gets the ball at the Shark 24 after a good return. One play later, the Scots score when Corwin made a couple of moves at the five and scored to make the score 21-9 with 6:57 left in the half. The Sharks returned their kickoff to the Scot 37. Scot defensive back Colby Hopkins intercepted a pass and almost returned it to midfield with 4:35 remaining. The Scots connect on a 36 yard field goal to make the score 24-9 with 3:15 on the clock. Shadow Creek punted and Highland Park got the ball back at their 19 with 2:03 left. They came up short on a 43 yard field goal attempt as time expired.

After a sack, they faced a 3rd and 26 from their 1 yard line. Quarterback Jamarian George scrambled and went 99 yards for a touchdown. They converted the 2 point conversion to make the score 27-17 with 7:14 left in the game. The Sharks stopped the Scots and Jackson had a 22 yard punt return to the Scot 27 yard line. The Sharks were unable to advance further though and turned the ball over on downs. After a punt, Shadow Creek took over at their 14 with 1:38 remaining. Their last ditch effort ended when HP defensive back Whit Winfield intercepted the ball with 26 seconds left.
