Galena Park North Shore Wins On Last Play

Galena Park North Shore Mustangs (15-0) vs. Duncanville Panthers (14-0) UIL Class 6A DI Texas High School Football State Championship.
The Galena Park North Shore Mustangs beat the Duncanville Panthers 41-36 in the Class 6A Division I Championship game. It was North Shores 3rd title in their 3rd championship game. Duncanville was competing in their 2nd championship game. They played their only other one in 1988 when they defeated Converse Judson 24-21.
Duncanville got the ball first but on their first play, North Shore defensive lineman Jordan Revels hit the Duncanville runner to cause a fumble and it was picked up by defensive lineman Ashton Reynolds who ran it in for a touchdown. North Shore led 7-0 just 10 seconds into the game. Duncanville gets the ball back and drives down to kick a 33 yard field goal to bring the score to 7-3. After a North Shore punt, Duncanville's running back Trysten Smith ran it in from 19 yards out to make the score 10-7. North Shore quarterback Dematrius Davis hit Shadrach Banks for a 51 yard pass. The extra point snap was high and the holder John Gentry was able to run it in for the 2 point conversion. That brought the score to 15-10.
Duncanville came right back and Smith ran it in from 7 yards out to make the score 17-15. North Shore scored as the time expired in the first quarter when Banks caught a short pass and took it 80 yards for the score. The extra point made it 22-17.
Duncanville punted on their first possession of the 2nd quarter and North Shore fumbled it back to them. The Panthers moved deep into Mustang territory and kicked a field goal to make it 22-20. North Shore scored on a pass to John Gentry to bring the score to 29-20 with 4:42 left until half. Duncanville got a big kickoff return into North Shore territory but fumbled and it was recovered by Mustang linebacker Cory Flagg. Davis made a great run scoring from 47 yards out but it was called back because of a block in the back. North Shore lined up for a 45 yard field goal but with a bad snap it never got off.
North Shore had a good drive but were forced to punt. Duncanville then drove to the 3 yard line before they missed a 25 yard field goal. North Shore went 3 and out and Duncanville got the ball at the Mustang 47 after a short punt. The quarter ended with Duncanville at the North Shore 18.
The Panthers added on a field goal early in the quarter to make the score 29-23. North Shore went 3 and out and Duncanville took over at their 40 with 10:39 left in the game. On a 4th and 2 play, Smith goes 52 yards for the score. The extra point put Duncanville ahead 30-29. North Shore drove down the field and scored when lineman Jordan Revels caught a pass for the touchdown. The 2 point conversion failed and the Mustangs led 35-30. The Panthers got a good kickoff return but were called for a block in the back and started at their own 15 with 5:15 remaining. Jackson scored from 5 yards out with 1:02 left in the game. The 2 point conversion was no good giving Duncanville the 36-35 lead. North Shore had one last chance starting at their own 22 with 57 seconds left. On the last play of the game, the Mustangs threw a 45 yard Hail Mary and North Shore fans held their breath as the ball sailed to the back of the far right corner of the endzone into a crowd. AJ Carter with Panthers draped on him, came away with the ball as he fell onto his back with the ball, the score and the win 41-36.
