Heisman Trophy Winner Coaching In Houston

Former Heisman Trophy winner and NBA player Charlie Ward is coaching at Westbury Christian in Houston. Ward is starting his second year as an assistant coach where he joined the staff as the quarterbacks coach in November 2007. He is also the boys basketball head coach.

Ward was the star quarterback at Florida State in 1992 and 1993, leading the Seminoles to an 11-1 record and a national title with a win over Nebraska in the 1994 Orange Bowl. He won the Heisman Trophy after passing for 27 touchdowns in 1993. Ward was also the starting point guard for the Florida State basketball team where he averaged 10.5 points and 4.9 assists and led the Seminoles to the NCAA tournament.

Ward chose pro basketball over pro football and was drafted in the first round by the New York Knicks. He played 10 seasons with the Knicks before a short stop in San Antonio and one season (2003-04) with the Rockets.

Ward will try to turn the Wildcats around after a 0-10 season in TAPPS play last year.
