SAN ANTONIO - The raucus Rattler fans from San Antonio Reagan were treated to a great game but left disappointed with the outcome as their squad felt the sting of penalties throughout and left the Alamodome 0-1 after losing the #31 Katy Cinco Ranch 21-17. The Rattlers began the game up a quick 10-0 while the Cougars of Cinco Ranch struggled to find their stride. QB Derrick Walls led his team valiantly throughout with some fine running and passing, but the offense faltered midway through the game.
For Cinco Ranch, QB Shane Ros looked shaky at first but settled in with the help of MVP RB, Adam Hirtz. Hirtz not only big passes at key times, and provided solid running throughout. While Ros wasn't the "human highlight film" some in the state has predicted him to be this year, he looks to have all the fundamentals and should turn in a fine season if he can get a bit more accuracy on his passes.
Overall, the most impressive thing for both teams was their defense. Although it appeared that neither D's did well in the first half, it was actually a series of single blown plays that led to the scores. Overall both teams did great on the defensive side of the ball throughout.
The takeaway for each of these teams?
San Antonio Reagan - this defense is for real. They are seriously stacked in the linebacking core. In addition, Derrick Walls is the real deal. If he can stay healthy, he will lead the Rattlers to a good season.
Katy Cinco Ranch - great outlook. Shane Ros needs a few more games to settle down, but has the talent to be a champion. The Cougars are stacked with talent, the defense is solid and big Adam Hirtz will be giving defenses fits all season.
