Pearland wins 22-5A District Title

The #7 Pearland Oilers (8-0, 6-0) clinched the 22-5A district title with a 20-9 win over the #44 Deer Park Deer at The Rig on Friday night.

Both teams were 7-0 and 5-0 in district play headed into the game, and both had productive offenses and smothering defenses.

The Pearland defense was able to keep Deer Park’s offense from scoring a touchdown, which hasn’t happened all season.

Pearland running back Kasey Carrier and the Oiler defense was the difference in the game. Carrier had 25 carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Deer Park’s offense was scoring an average for 35.6 points per game headed into Friday night.

The Deer offense was producing, but had trouble in the red zone. The Deer were inside the Pearland 20 three times in the game, but only scored two field goals in those trips.
