HOUSTON - Atascocita High School won the 2009 Sterling Bank Sportsmanship Award which was presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  The fourth annual sportsmanship luncheon was put on by the Touchdown Club of Houston on Wednesday, January 14, at the JW Marriott Hotel.   Other finalists for the award were Bush, Cy-Fair, Dulles, Elsik, Houston Lamar, Humble, Katy Taylor, Madison, Memorial, Northbrook, Pearland, Sam Rayburn and Waltrip.

Previous winners of the sportsmanship award were Klein (2006), Scarborough (2007) and Deer Park (2008). Schools were judged by the referees who cover area high school football games on conduct of the team and coaches, conduct of the supports groups at the contest, and respect for the American flag. Referees mailed rating cards after each contest to an accountant, who tallied the scores and presented them to a subcommittee. That subcommittee ranked the teams and selected the winner.
