Arlington Bowie 7on7 Tournament unable to field 32 teams
-
Updated: May 11, 2009
The Arlington Bowie State Qualifying Tournament (SQT) being held May 23rd has been shrunk down from their intended 32 team pool. The organizers were unable to field a full 32 teams and thus decided to shrink the field down to 24. Rather than 4 teams qualifying to advance to the State Championship in College Station, there will now be only three teams advancing.
To make up for the missing finalist intended to come from this SQT, Arlington Bowie will hold a much smaller, 8-man SQT on June 27th. Only the winner of the tournament will advance to the finals in College Station.
The news does not bode well for an off season which includes several of these so-called Mega-SQTs. Particularly the tournaments scheduled in the northern part of the state, have opted for less tournaments and more participants. We will have to wait and see if these Mega-SQTs are the wave of the sports future, or if their reality is tougher to realize than originally planned.
