Updated: May 28, 2009
Here are the pools, breakdowns and of course my predictions for the Waco Midway State Qualifying Tournament this weekend.
Pool A: Waco Midway, Edcouch-Elsa, Killeen Harker Heights, Austin Bowie
The host Waco Midway will be led by all-state 4-star Commit DB to Baylor Ahmad Dixon and WR Levi Norwood. The always dangerous and LSG's favorite traveling team Edcouch-Elsa will always be competitive. Killeen Harker Heights went 2-1 last week and will be led by RB Kerry Sloan. Austin Bowie was 2-1 last week and will try to be the upset victor.
Mike's Pick: Edcouch-Elsa
Pool B: Arlington, Round Rock Westwood, Killeen Shoemaker, Mission Sharyland
Arlington went 1-2 at the Arlington Lamar SQT while Round Rock Westwood went 2-1 at the SQT they hosted. Killeen Shoemaker will bring a very talented QB in Jameill Showers (2150 yrds passing in 2008, 4-star recruit Committed to Texas A&M). Mission Sharyland will have a tough time but will keep things close.
Mike's Pick: Killeen Shoemaker
Pool C: Arlington Lamar, Belton, Cedar Park Vista Ridge, Lampasas
Arlington Lamar went 1-2 last week and will be led by All-State RB Ja'Terian Douglas (2036 rushing yards in 2008). Cedar Park Vista Ridge finished 2-1 last week and will bring talent like RB Calvin Thompson and DB Michael Pickett. Belton and Lampasas will try to keep up.
Mike's Pick: Arlington Lamar
Pool D: Stephenville, Austin High, Killeen, Midlothian
Stephenville as always will bring a strong team. Austin High will bring one of the areas top QB's in Jacob Morgan (2285 yrds passing in 2008). Midlothian went 2-1 and will be led by WR Eddie Johnson and RB Torey Harris. Killeen will have a tough time competing.
Mike's Pick: Stephenville
Pool E: Mercedes, Temple, Bastrop, Round Rock
Mercedes is another one of those great traveling teams. They always bring a good team. Temple will showcase one of the states top prospects in RB Lache Seastrunk (4.4 speed 1541 rushing yards in 2008, 4-star recruit) and LB Derrick Davis. Bastrop went 2-1 last week while Round Rock went 0-3.
Mike's Pick: Mercedes

Copperas Cove went 1-2 last week and will feature RB Brandin Byrd. Georgetown was 1-2 last week. They will feature WR Adriane Rocha (70-857 yards in 2008). Mabank and Joshua will bring competitive teams.
