Cuero Wins Their State Qualifying Tournament — But Will Not Advance To State

Here are the scores of the Cuero Division II State Qualifying Tournament. Cuero won the championship BUT later the tiebreaker decision was reversed in pool play and Cuero will not advance to the state tournemnt.

A big Lone Star Gridiron salute goes out to the Gobblers!!! They made sure they got the right call even though it would mean that their team would not go to state.

Coach Travis Reeve from Cuero sent this explanation:

There has been a change in the teams who have qualified for the state tournament from the Cuero 7on7 SQT. Palacios, not Cuero, has qualified for the state tournament along with Edna. In Pool A, there was a three way tie for first between Cuero, Palacios, and Rice Consolidated, and originally it was determined that Cuero would advance because it had scored the most points in pool play. However, after being reviewed by the 7on7 Board of Directors, it was determined that Rice Consolidated's games should not have counted in pool play because they had already qualified for the state tournament in a previous SQT. Therefore, that left a two-way tie for first with Cuero and Palacios, and Palacios beat Cuero head to head in pool play. Therefore, Palacios is the state qualifier out of Pool A. Since the championship game between Cuero and Edna has already been played, Cuero will still remain as tournament champions, but Edna and Palacios will advance to the state tournament from the Cuero SQT.
