Updated: March 12, 2010
Breckenridge has hired Odessa Permian's offensive coordinator, strong>Steve Freeman to be their new Athletic Director and Head Coach. Freeman replaces David Fambrough who was reassigned after leading the Buckaroos to back to back 1-9 seasons.
Freeman was the Head Coach at Brownwood from 1997-2008 and was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Odessa Permian last year. He lead his Brownwood teams to 9 playoff appearances during his 12 seasons there. His overall record was 90-52.
Breckenridge has not been to the playoffs since 2005. Things are looking better for them though. Beginning this season they will drop down to Class 2A playing in the Division I District 4. They are tied with the 3rd highest enrollment in all of Class 2A. Other teams in the district are Clifton, Comanche, Dublin, Eastland, Godley and Whitney.
The Buckaroos have a great history having made six state finals and reaching the playoffs 38 times.
