Coaching Changes — Sweeny
-
Updated: March 16, 2010
Sweeny has hired Brett Sawyer as their new athletics director and head football coach. He will replace Tommy Zajicek who retired after the 2009 season.
Zajicek retires after coaching a second stint in Sweeny. He coached the Bulldogs from 1989-1998 and then again from 2005-2009. He finishes with a 15 year record of 119-48-7 which puts him at the #1 spot in Sweeny History for coaching wins.
Sawyer is coming to Sweeny from Richardson Berkner where he has coached for the last nine years. He has been their assistant defensive coordinator for the last four years and has coached defensive linemen and linebackers.
Sweeny is part of District 29-3A and they should be one of the top teams in the district. Other schools are Needville, Palacios, West Columbia, Columbus and Wharton
