Coaching Changes — Greenville
-
Updated: April 25, 2010
Greenville has hired former assistant coach Chawn "Coop" Cooper to be their next head coach. Cooper will replace Jim Phillips who left to become the head coach and athletic director at Pasadena Dobie. Phillips has led the Lions for the last two seasons and had an 8-12 overall record.
Cooper is a former offensive line coach with the Lions from 1996-2000 and then again from 2002-2006. He is currently the offensive coordinator for Caddo Mills where he has been since 2006. In the middle of his stays at Greenville he was the offensive coordinator at Sulphur Springs in 2001. He started his coaching career at Wolfe City from 1993-1996.
The Lions will be a member of a very tough District 13-4A for the next two seasons. Other members are Denison, Mount Pleasant, Royse City, Sherman, Sulphur Springs and Texarkana Texas. Greenville ended 2009 with a 6-4 record which ended a 5 year losing streak but they still have not made the playoffs since 2003.
