Manvel will be the host of this SQT. Here are the pools, players to watch and of course our predictions.
Pool A: Pearland Dawson, Clear Creek, Friendswood, Clear Springs
Pearland Dawson was the only team in this pool to make it to the state championships last year which helped them to a semifinal showing in 11-man in only their second year of varsity play. They will bring lots of talent with WR Marcus Vaughn 53-945 9 TDs Rec, WR Devin Killpatrick, WR Randall Weeks, ATH Max Brown and DB Steve Orisakwe. Friendswood will show off one of the best QB's in this SQT with Peter Maetzold 2798 yards 30 TDs and DB/WR Matt Kennemer 14-372 5 TDs Rec. 2 INTs. Clear Creek and Clear Springs both lost in the semifinals last season at Texas City and they have the talent to make it to state this year. Clear Creek will showcase WR Tevin Jones 39-509 5 TDs Rec., WR C.J. McElroy 277 rushing 495 receiving 8 Total TDs and ATH Tad Pierce 49 Tackles 3 INTs. Clear Springs who also made it to the quarterfinals in 11-man in only their second year of varsity play will bring a very talented field. They will feature WR Dimitri Donald 43-523 3 TDs Rec., LB Trevon Randle 152 tackles 3 INTs Committed to LSU, LB/DB Donnie Baggs 91 tackles 4 sacks COMMITTED to Texas A&M, LB Brandon Mickens 42 tackles 3 sacks, DB Sam Richardson Blocked eight kicks and scored twice in the return game 63 tackles 6 INTs and DB Howard Matthews COMMITTED to Texas A&M.

Pool B: Houston Lamar, Fort Bend Elkins, Houston Chavez, Pasadena Memorial
Houston Lamar has already qualified for state and will not be able to defend the championship they won at this SQT last year. They were the winner of the Houston Texans Saturday SQT. Houston Chavez is also in this pool and they have also qualified for state being the Runner up at the Houston Texans Saturday SQT. Pasadena Memorial went 1-2 in pool play last week. Elkins is the only team in this pool that did not play last week and they will bring a lot of talent in RB Donte Clark 361 rushing 299 receiving, RB Jarvis Dancy, WR Darius Brown, DB Jaylon Finner 71 tackles 4 Ints 8 PB, DB Lamar Edwards and DB Tre' Spragg. Elkins was the Runner Up at this SQT last season.

Pool C: Manvel, Willis, Channelview, Texas City
Texas City and Channelview both won their pools and Manvel went 1-2 in pool play last Saturday at the Texans SQT. Both Texas City and Channelview lost in the semifinals though to Houston Lamar and Houston Chavez. Willis who will feature WR Damien Bishop did not play last week. Manvel will once again play without star QB and Colorado commit Dexter Foreman. They missed out last year losing twice in the semifinals including in this SQT. None of these teams made it to the state tournament last season.

Pool D: Alvin, Alief Elsik, Montgomery, Houston Worthing
None of these teams made it to the state championship either last year. Montgomery led by QB Tyler Bolfing, RB Leroy Dobbins 2629 yards 24 TDS rushing, WR Mitchell Buick and WR Arrius Holleman went undeated in pool play last Sunday at the Texans SQT but lost to a very good San Antonio Alamo Heights team in the semifinals. Alief Elsik will be pretty good with QB Kurt Lambert and WR Demarcus Smith. Alvin went 2-7 in SQT play last year while Houston Worthing went 2-1 last week at the Texans SQT.
