7 on 7 — Texans Division I SQT Pools and Picks (Sat)

Houston Chavez will be the host of the Houston Texans 7-on-7 SQT this Saturday May 23rd. This event will be held at the Methodist Training Center and as always it will be a well run event. If you have not been to this SQT this is one of the best, the Chavez coaches come out and do a great job. Also, just like in the past, this SQT will not be lacking in quality teams. Here are the pools, players to watch and of course out predictions.

Pool A : Houston Bellaire Fort Bend Dulles Katy Cinco Ranch Channelview

Bellaire and Dulles both made the state championship tournament last season. Bellaire earned their trip in this tournament last year but fell to Chavez in the championship game after leading 32-22 at half. Channelview went 5-6 last season in SQT play. They lost to Chavez in this SQT last season in the semifinals. Bellaire will have to do without star QB Adrian Nelson this year but RB Christian Dolphus and WR Chisolm Ibeh should lead a competitive team. Fort Bend Dulles will bring a very talented team with QB Zach Lathrop (1347 yards 9 TDs), RB Jarrell Oliver (1049 yards 12 TDs rushing), WR London Muse, WR Sheridan Taylor and Texas Commit DB Sheroid Evans. Cinco Ranch didnt make the state tournament last year despite an 11-4 record in SQT play. They will be led by WR Bobby Waid and superstar RB K.C. Nlemchi (2388 yards 28 TDs rushing 315 yards 4 TDs receiving commmitted to SMU).

Mike Picks: Fort Bend Dulles
Chris Picks: Katy Cinco Ranch

Pool B : Manvel Houston Lamar Cypress Woods Clear Creek

Only Houston Lamar made it to the state tournament last year and they will once again be a tough out with Houston committ QB Bram Kohlhausen leading the way (1173 yards 19 TDs passing). He will bring lots of talented friends with him like RB Darren Ervin (730 yards 9 TDs rushing committed to California), WR Kelechi Ejekam, WR Ross Jones and DB Earl Foster. Manvel went 8-4 in SQT play last year and came close but lost in 2 semifinal games. They will be led by Colorado committ QB Dexter Foreman (843 yards 4 TDS passing) and WR Travaughn Caldwell. Cypress Woods went 4-6 in SQT last year and will once again have great receivers in WR Clesmie Burden and WR Patrick Gant. Clear Creek will also have a couple of great recievers in WR Tevin Jones (39-509 5 TDs Rec.) and WR C.J. McElroy (277 rushing 495 receiving 8 Total TDs)

Mike Picks: Houston Lamar
Chris Picks: Houston Lamar

Pool C : Houston Milby Texas City Magnolia Houston Waltrip

Milby is the only 5A team in this pool with three 4A schools. This pool does not look to have any real standout teams so it should be very competitive. Milby, Waltrip and Texas City combined for a 2-7 record in pool play in last years Texans SQT and Magnolia did not play in any SQT's in 2009. Magnolia's QB Jordan Schuetz should be a good one to watch.

Mike Picks: Texas City
Chris Picks: Magnolia

<Pool D : Houston Chavez Houston Worthing Pasadena Aldine MacArthur
Houston Chavez is the host and they will be led by RB Tim Gay (601 yards 14 TDs rushing) and WR Jafus Gaines (38-752 9 TDs). This should be a cake walk for the Lobos. They are always very athletic and their pool includes a team (Pasadena) that went 0-3 in pool play last year and two teams that did not play any SQT's in 2009 (Houston Worthing and Aldine MacArthur).
