Goliad has hired Mark Cunningham to be their next head coach. Cunningham will replace Greg Althof who resigned from the position.
Althof has been the head coach at Goliad for four seasons and had an overall record of 10-31 that included one playoff appearance. The Tigers went 1-9 last season. Altholf has also coached at Ingram Tom Moore, Rankin, Nacona, Alpine and Hamlin.
Cunningham comes over after being the defensive coordinator at China Spring. He began his 29 year coaching career as an assistant at Giddings and A&M Consolidated. He had been a head coach at Pittsburg (1995-1998 (26-16-1)), Alvarado (1999-2000 (17-8)), Glen Rose (2002-2005 (27-17)) and Fort Worth Brewer (2006-2007 (2-18)). His career record is currently at 72-59-1.
Goliad will compete in District 30-3A next season against Aransas Pass, Ingleside, Mathis, Rockport-Fulton and Sinton. The Tigers are on a five year losing streak and the most wins in a season over the last 11 years is only six.
