Coaching Changes — San Antonio Lee
-
Updated: May 7, 2010
San Antonio Lee has hired Danny Kloza (for the second time) as their head coach and athletic coordinator. Kloza will replace Jimmy Ramos who resigned at the end of last season for health reasons.
Ramos is leaving after leading the Volunteers for 9 years with an overall record of 18-72.
Kloza comes over from San Antonio MacArthur where he was an assistant coach for the past six years. He has also has coached at San Antonio Lee and San Antonio Reagan and is a 1982 Lee graduate. Kloza was an assistant coach at Lee in 1993, the last time the Volunteers made the football playoffs.
Coach Kloza was first approved as head coach and athletic coordinator at Lee by the board of trustees on April 5th. But “interim” was added to his title when district officials reopened the job after discovering there was a “mix-up” in the education requirements posted for the dual position. The district listed a master’s degree as a minimum requirement when it advertised the job after Jimmy Ramos resigned. Kloza was hired despite having only a bachelors degree. The wording was changed on the posting to say a masters degree was a “plus” for the job, but not a requirement, making Kloza eligible for consideration. After reapplying for the position, Kloza was the screening committees unanimous choice again and his hiring was approved. So...Kloza was hired for the same job at the same school twice in one month.
Things are not good at Lee though. They now have 14 consecutive losing seasons and 18 consecutive non-winning seasons. The Volunteers have only finished above .500 four times in the past 30 seasons. Lee is also a member of a tough District 26-5A along with San Antonio Churchill, San Antonio Johnson, San Antonio MacArthur, San Antonio Madison, San Antonio Reagan and San Antonio Roosevelt.
