-
Updated: May 1, 2010
Seguin has hired Wayne Walker as their new athletic director and head coach. Walker will replace Jim Carson who is leaving for family reasons.
Carson has led the Matadors since 2003. He has guided them to a 33-40 during that time and has an all-time coaching record of 116-114-2.
Walker comes over from La Grange where he took over in 2005. When he arrived there he inherited a team with a 2-8 record (Seguin now has 3 consecutive 2-8 season) and he turned them around to a 12-3 record in 2009 reaching the semifinals. In five seasons with the Leopards, Walker had a 34-21 record. Before that he was the offensive coordinator at Ennis from 1994-2005. He helped the Lions win back to back Class 4A Division II State Championships in 2000 and 2001. Ennis also won another title in 2004.
Seguin is a member of District 25-5A along with Cibolo Steele, Converse Judson, New Braunfels, Converse Wagner and San Marcos. The Matadors play New Braunfels each year in on of the longest running series (1927-2009). The game is called the "Guadalupe River Bowl". New Braunfels leads the series 56-37-3 96 total games.
