Wimberley Downs Dripping Springs 33-14 to Remain Unbeaten

Wimberley Texas High School FootballWIMBERLEY - The Wimberley Texans kept their record unblemished Friday night as they played host to rival, Dripping Springs. After losing the preview three encounters to the Tigers, the Texans took care of business in Friday's 33-14 win.

Dennis Smith continued to demonstrate why so many people are high on him around the state. He rolled up 147 yard on 22 carries including touchdown runs of 73, 4 and 7 yards as well as four receptions for another 80 yards and recovering a fumble on defense. His early runs along with a defense reminiscent of 2005's "Code Red Defense" paced them to a 12-0 by halftime.

The defense was called into question in last weeks opener when they gave up 42 points in the win over the always-tough, Cuero Gobblers. Paced by linebackers Kolby Kelley and Jeremiah Kuenzli, the Texans established defensive control early. Dripping Springs managed only five first downs in the entire first half and four of them came on their opening drive, which ended in a fumble.

Wimberley is looking to maintain their winning ways next week when they play host to Smithville.
