Week 7 — Highlights

University Interscholastic League will be meeting soon to discuss the state championship game locations. It was a rotating Class 5A state championship games between Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. Now though, all state championship football games are central site games which Houston would not be able to handle due to their turf. The UIL will look into consindering other sites that may not be domed stadiums.

The UIL will also look at changing to six classifications. They would like to maybe go 1A through 6A and get rid of the divisions I and II. They will also look into using replay in championship games.

Abilene (#13 5A) routed Midland (#47 5A) 77-21 in front of a national audiance as it was played on ESPN2. The Eagles set a school record for total yards in a game (637) and tied the mark for first downs (31) and it was also their largest margin of victory over the Lee. Superstar RB Herschel Sims rushed for 91 yards on only 8 carries and scored a TD. He did not play in the 2nd half.

Brenham (#3 4A) was able to get by Montgomery (#18 4A) 31-28 in a battle of 4A unbeatens. The Cubs led 24-18 at half but the 2nd half turned into a defensive battle. They held superstar Montgomery RB Leroy Dobbins to 10 yards on 10 carries in the 2nd half before he scored on a long run on the last play of the game. Dobbins finished with 210 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Brownwood (#1 3A) QB Graylon Brown passed for 363 yards with 7 TDs during their convincing 61-20 win over Snyder (#15 3A).

Texas City (#64 4A) won the 52nd playing of the "Battle by the Bay" vs. La Marque (#24 4A) 43-33. This was the Stingarees 4th consecutive win in the series.

Klein Collins (#14 5A) defeated Klein (#17 5A) easily 38-13 in a battle of unbeatens. The Collins defense held Klein to only 8 1st downs on the night. This was the 3rd consecutive week that Collins has beaten a previously undefeated team. They also knocked off Spring Dekaney and Tomball over the last 2 weeks.

Belton (NR 5A) QB David Ash passed for 359 yards with 4 TDs during their 42-24 win over Temple (NR 5A).

Abilene Cooper (#10 5A) rushed for 402 yards during their 34-27 victory over Odessa Permian (#31 5A).

DeSoto (#12 5A) needed a late score to overcome the upset bid by Tyler Lee (NR 5A) 42-28. Lee remains winless. DeSoto QB Ryan Polite was 21 of 29 for 287 yards and 2 TDs

Georgetown (NR 5A) QB Nic Sioson passed for 434 yards and 6 TDs during their 55-51 upset win over Pflugerville (NR 5A).

Dallas Carter (NR 4A) sacked Dallas Kimball (NR 4A) QB's 15 times during their 14-0 victory in the Oak Cliff Super Bowl.

Corpus Christi Ray (#39 4A) QB Rey Rodriguez passed for 412 yards for 6 TDs during their 52-21 win over Corpus Christi Moody (NR 4A).

San Antonio Churchill (NR 5A) shocked San Antonio Maison (5-1) 19-6. Churchill is now 5-3 overall and 2 of those losses came in double OT games on consecutive weeks.

Rockwall (NR 4A) QB Alan Reed passed for 418 yards for 3 TDs and rushed for 153 yards for 4 more TDs during their 52-51 win over Rockwall-Heath (NR 4A).

Corpus Christi Calallen (#32 4A) got a 100 yard fumble return by DB Tyler Denman in OT to defeat Corpus Christi Flour Bluff (#68 4A) 27-21.

El Paso Montwood (NR 5A) got 293 rushing yards from 5'6" 165 lb. Tim Rocha to defeat El Paso Coronado (#33 5A) 31-28. They also needed a 24 yard FG a time expired also.

Austin Lake Travis (#2 4A) is usually know for their offense but their defense was equally impressived during their 42-0 victory over Cedar Park Vista Ridge (#25 4A). Ridge was held to 79 total yards and 2 first downs for the game.

Richardson Lake Highlands (#42 5A) RB Desmond Roland ran for 276 yards and 4 TDs during their 27-21 win over Richardson Berkner (NR 5A).

Coppell (#5 5A) took control early and defeated Southlake Carroll (#16 5A) 35-17. It was only the 5th time in 39 tries that the Cowboys have won this matchup.

Ben Bolt (#22 1A DI) QB Aaron Bueno ran for 320 yards with 3 TDs and passed for 129 yards for 2 more TDs during their 34-21 victory over La Villa (#18 1A DI).

Mart (#8 1A DI) held Kerens (#3 1A DI) to only 6 first downs for the game to get the big 21-0 win

Carthage (#19 3A) beat Gilmer (#7 3A) 38-21.....this ended Gilmers district winning streak at 45 games!!

Cypress Woods (NR 5A) QB Colton Huntsman passed for 409 yards and 5 TDs and rushed for 123 yards for 2 more TDs during their 55-27 win over Langham Creek (NR 5A).

Aledo (#1 4A) got 302 rushing yards and 5 TDs on only 15 carries from superstar RB Johnathan Gray to beat Saginaw Boswell (NR 4A) 63-17
