Week 9 — Highlights

From The Fans: As you requested, here are the results of the West Columbia at Sweeny game. The Roughnecks won 23-17, and became District Champions. Roughnecks dominated the first half 16-0 and didn’t let Sweeney get one pass off. Second half Sweeney tried to shake off the threat of the Roughnecks, and the Roughnecks’ defense let down their guard. It was a very exciting game. SRO in the stands. People were standing and sitting around the track . Sorry you missed it.

The Nacogdoches Dragons (NR 4A) and Jacksonville Indians (#31 4A) played an amazing 12 Overtimes!! This is thought to be a national record for overtimes in a game. Jacksonville finally won it 84-81!!! The 165 points breaks the all-time record for Combined Points-Regular Season Game which was 143 - El Paso Burges 87, El Paso Austin 56 (2004). District 14-4A now has all of its playoff teams set. Tyler John Tyler (#7 4A), Whitehouse (#21 4A), Jacksonville and Marshall (#47 4A) will all represent.

San Antonio Churchill (#45 5A) scored 10 unanswered 4th quarter point including a FG with 8 seconds left to defeat San Antonio Roosevelt (#37 5A) 17-14. Churchill has won their last 3 games now have earned a playoff spot for the first time since 2006. Roosevelt will play Reagan (#28 5A) next week for the final 26-5A spot. San Antonio MacArthur (#15 5A) and San Antonio Madison (#20 5A) are the other 2 teams in the district to have qualified for the playoffs. 26-5A has always been an LSG favorite and they did not dissapoint again this year!!

Leander RB Jon Henderson rushed for 301 yards and scored 4 TDs in their 36-28 win over Round Rock Westwood.

Lewisville Hebron (#56 5A) had 4 turnovers in their game vs. Allen (#5 5A) but they were still able to pull off the upset 35-28 behind 642 yards of total offense. Allen and Flower Mound (#47 5A) had already qualified for the playoffs coming into the week and will play next week for the district title. Flower Mound Marcus (#48 5A) also qualified as the 3rd team in the playoffs with their win over Lewisville (NR 5A). Hebron will need a win next week over Marcus or a Plano (#49 5A) loss to Plano West (NR 5A) to make the playoffs.

Belton (NR 5A) rallied from 21-6 down to defeat Bryan (NR 5A) 36-27. Belton, A&M Consolidated (#22 5A), Copperas Cove (#30 5A) and Bryan will be the playoff teams from district 12-5A with A&M and Bryan going to Division I. Bryan makes the playoffs despite the loss because both Temple (NR 5A) and Harker Heights (NR 5A) lost.

Abilene Cooper (#10 5A) proved they deserved their high ranking again with a convincing 45-28 victory over Abilene (#11 5A). The Cougars scored 21 unanswered points in the 2nd half to defeat the Eagles for the 1st time in 7 tries. Coopers star JR QB Clayton Nicholas threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Nicholas has now completed 75.6% of his passes through 9 games (152 of 201). Cooper and Abilene have both qualified for the playoffs along with Midland (#29 5A) for District 3-5A. The last playoff spot will be the winner of next weeks Midland Lee (#38 5A)/Odessa (NR 5A) game.

Godley RB Landry Martinez rushed for 292 yards and scored 4 TDs during their 49-0 win over Clifton.

Sinton (#8 3A) needed a goal line stand with only 2 seconds remaining to defeat Mathis (NR 3A) 28-21 and win District 30-3A. Ingleside (#47 3A) gets the 2nd playoff spot in the district with their 27-21 win over Rockport-Fulton (#51 3A). Mathis and Rockport-Fulton meeat up next week and the winner gets that 3rd spot.

Sanford-Fritch (#15 2A DII) held Spearman (#25 2A II) to just 31 rushing yards to get an 18-13 victory and win District 1-2A Division II. It is the Eagles first district championship since 2000. Spearman will play Tulia (NR 2A DII) and Abernathy will play Floydada (NR 2A DII) next week and both will have playoff outcomes on the line.

Katy RB Donovonn Young rushed for 260 yards and scored 4 TDs during their 56-14 win over Katy Taylor

Kerens snapped Cayuga's 22 game winning streak with a 27-6 victory. The last time Cayuga lost was in week 0 last year to Frankston 26-33.
