Harlingen South Hires Former Round Rock Coach

2012 Coaching Change: Harlingen South Hawks
Old Head Coach: Gilbert Leal/Jim Morton -- Leal was reassigned half way through the season and Morton was promoted as interim. Both coaches record last year was 1-4. Leal finished his 2.5 seasons with a 2-23 record. Before coming to coach the Hawks, Leal was the head coach at Mercedes from 2005-2008 going 24-19. He was the Hawks offensive coordinator before going to Mercedes.
New Head Coach: Lanny Wilson -- Was the defensive coordinator at Gonzalez for the past 2 years. His other head coaching job was at 5A Round Rock where he led te Dragons from 2003-2009 where he went 41-37. He was the Dragons defensive coordinator from 2000-2002. He also coached at Gregory-Portland, Goliad, Pleasanton and Three Rivers.
Team News: The Hawks are on a 4 year losing streak going 5-35. They will be moving to District 32-5A from 31-5A with the last UIL re-alignment. The other schools in the district will be Brownsville Hanna, Brownsville Lopez, Brownsville Pace, Brownsville Porter, Brownsville Rivera, Brownsville Veterans Memorial, Harlingen and Los Fresnos.
