Coaches Comments: Our skill positions will be the strength of the team as almost all will be returning again this year. There will be a lot of competition for the offensive line and defensive line spots with the lost of the 2012 class. I expect us to be competing for one of the playoff spots this year with the returning of some good talent in the skill position area. District Outlook: Any team can be the head of the pack in our district. Lamar, Westbury, Bellaire fighting for one of the top spots, but will never count out the jobs that coaches at Westside, Madison, and Chavez do to upset the prediction. Sam will be the surprise team this year. We have taken a lot of hits the past 2 years of varsity play and gained some valuable experience and maturity. Hopefully it translates to wins for us this year.
Returning Starters: Offense: 7 Defense: 6
Key Players:
* Rodney Motley - Pure athlete with great vision on the field. 2nd team all district running back
* Jeffery Jones - Nose for the football defensively. Can play any skill position on defense.
* Jacoby Dixon - Amazing athlete with unbelievable hands, that can line up all over the field. 2nd team all district defensive back.
* Pedro Terwogt- Big left guard that gets down field fast.
* Raul Gama - Speedy defensive end that will stand up at LB. Loves to chase the ball
* Joseph Sifuentes - 3rd year QB that is making tremendous gains from previous years.
Notes:
* 2011 ended a 42 game losing streak
* 37 game district losing streak
- Mike Says: The Tigers will rely on their returning starters to get back on the winning side of things. It will be a tough road but they can make it back. Look for them to go 2-8 or 1-9 this season.
- Chris Says: Houston Sam Houston is a team that has nowhere to go but up. They bring a lot of experience back but go up against some fierce competition in District 20-5A. I don't see them making it all the way to the playoffs this season, but they should take a step in the right direction.
