2012 LSG Texas High School Football Team Preview — Seminole Indians

Team: Seminole Indians (2-3A)

Colors: Black/Gold

1st varsity season: 1917

Stadium: Wig Wam Stadium (Capacity: 3,500)

Enrollment: 645 -- 5th largest in the district out of 6 schools

Coach: Chris Burtch (8 years) 57-38 (#3 in all-time wins at Seminole); 105-87-0 all-time coaching record

Coaches Comments: Our strength will be Tradition/Leadership while our weakness will be Team Speed/Depth. The tradition has been set. We expect to be playing for a district championship and a deep run in the playoffs. We lost a great Sr. class but fully expect to have another great group take their place. We will have to rebuild the defensive side of the ball but playing time from last year’s season will allow new starters to grow up quickly. We return 3 individuals in the secondary that have had starting experience. All of our linebacking core will be young but very talented. Our defensive front may be the fastest we have ever put on the field, but they will need to mature very quickly. We are very experienced on the offensive line returning 4 players that have had starting experience. We are solid at the QB position and he will need to make huge contributions this year as well. A running back will need to step forward and claim the role of our go to ball carrier. The receiving core returns a lot of experience but no starters.

Mike Says: The Indians will rely on their tradition to try and repeat their success with only 5 starters returning from their Quarterfinals team. Quarterback Burtch will be fun to watch this year. He led their high flying offense last year leading them to 40+ points 7 times. Look for them to go 6-4 or 5-5 this season and fight for a playoff spot. The district championship is up for grabs.

Chris Says: Seminole doesn't bring a lot of returning talent to the field this season, but their tradition should transition the new guys to the team's winning ways. The Indians expect a lot from last years subs and will need them to step up fast. District 2-3A will be a battle down to the wire, but the experience gained from a tough pre-district schedule should have them ready. Seminole will do well this season and be setup for an even better 2013.
