Denton Guyer wins Texas high school football Class 4A Division I State Championship
Georgetown has been playing varsity ball since 1909 while Denton Guyer has only been playing since 2006. This was a battle of old vs. new but this was Guyer's 2nd trip to the championship game and Georgetown's first showing. These two teams did not disappoint putting up 85 points and 932 total yards. Guyer came from behind to win their first state championship. They previously (2010) lost to Cibolo Steele 24-21.
The Eagles from Georgetown looked to have everything under control when they took a 30-14 lead early in the 3rd quarter. Guyer then looked to their star quarterback Jerrod Heard and he led a wild comeback. They went on to score the games next 27 points to take a 41-30 lead early in the 4th quarter. They traded touchdowns after that to get the final score. Heard finished the night with 178 yards passing and 122 yards rushing and 7 total touchdowns. Guyers DL Connor Allen won the games Defensive Player Of The Game. Georgetown's superstar quarterback Jake Hubenak finished the night with 22 completions on 36 attempts for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns.
