2013 Coaching Change: Wimberley Texans
Old Head Coach: Weldon Nelms -- Leaving for 5A Weatherford. He led the Texans for a total of 14 seasons during two different stays to an overall record of 143-48-1. He is the all-time winningest coach at Wimberley. His 2005 and 2011 teams won Class 3A State Championships. He has also been a head coach at Rotan 1987-90, Iowa Park 1994-1999 (38-31-0) and Glen Rose 2000-2001 (11-11). He has an all-time coaching record of 230-117-3 which ranks him in the Top 40 in all-time coaching wins. Coach Nelms was named a 2012 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award recipient – 1 of only 16 recognized annually.
New Head Coach: Doug Warren -- Has been at Wimberley for 7 years with the past four spent as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He has also been an assistant at Littlefield and Glen Rose. This will be his first head coaching position. His father Jim, was a head coach at Plains where he coached Nelms who played quarterback and safety. One of his brothers is Steve Warren who is the head coach at Abilene.
