Southlake Carroll & Argyle among the UIL Lone Star Cup Winners

AUSTIN, Texas – The five winners of the 2012-13 UIL Lone Star Cup were announced Monday.

Southlake Carroll High School did it again this year. The Dragons won their fourth overall and second consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup by exceeding their score of 100 points last year, scoring 122 points this year in the Conference 5A, which is tied for the highest point total in history. The Dragons took home state championships in cross country and swimming and diving for both boys and girls while the softball team ended the year as the state runner-up.

Cedar Park High School captured its first-ever UIL Lone Star Cup victory and scored the highest point total in school history. The reigning Conference 4A marching band state champion also snatched its first football state championship. Cedar Park was also state runner-up in boys golf and was a state semifinalist in girls soccer.

With state championship victories in academics and marching band, a state runner-up finish in boys golf and made it to the state semifinals in volleyball, Argyle High School won its fourth overall and second consecutive Lone Star Cup trophy. Once again, Argyle and Southlake Carroll are the only schools to win Lone Star Cups in multiple conferences. The Eagles were champions in 2006 in 2A and 2009 in 3A.

Salado High School took home its second Conference 2A UIL Lone Star Cup victory after a late season rise in the standings. In the spring, the Eagles excelled in academics and girls golf taking home state champion titles, finished third at state in one-act play and boys golf, and advanced to the state semifinals in baseball.

After two state championships in softball and boys golf, third at state in girls golf and semifinalists in baseball, Weimar High School climbed to the top of Conference 1A winning their second UIL Lone Star Cup in school history.

The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes five high schools (one in each of the five UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned athletic and academic championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 season.
