Coaches Comments: I expect us to be in the battle for the district championship. Our district is very balanced so any number of teams could come out on top. I expect us to improve each week as our younger players get more experience. District Outlook: Montgomery, Brenham, Magnolia West, Huntsville, Magnolia, Willis, Bryan Rudder may surprise.
Returning Lettermen: 30
Returning Starters: Offense: 6 Defense: 3
Key Players:
* Paul Allen - 5'11 185 lb Jr. RB who rushed for over 800 yds as Soph. Strong and Fast. Does everything well.
* Josh Bolfng - 6'2 165 lb Jr. QB who passed for over 1300 yds as Soph. Intelligent, accurate passer who moves well.
* Ken'dre Howard - Jr. WR who had 24 rec. as a Soph. Excellent route runner with great hands.
* Blake Teasdale - Sr LG. Big, strong and experienced.
* Larry Harris - Jr Rt. He is huge at 6'4 350. Moves fairly well. When he gets on defender it is over.
* Dustin Castleberry - Jr. Center. Strong, physical and smart. 2nd Team All-District
* Johnathan Thomas - 6'2 225 lb. Jr. TE. Moves up from JV, but plays like a veteran. Physical with great hands.
* Makenzie Liston - Sr. LB who recorded 74 tackles as a Jr. Not much to look at, but can play.
* Chase Rosenfield - Sr. Returns as a starter at CB. Had solid junior season. 2nd Team All-District
* Jake Cole, Steven McCartha, Carson Neal - TNT. All 3 are strong and quick. They are small, but very quick and explosive. Just the way we like them. Neal was 1st Team All-District
* Dillon Berry - 6'2 185 lb Sr. DE. Could be our best defender before all is said and done.
* Anthony Thomas - Soph. FS. He should make immediate impact as a soph.
2012 JV Record: 7-3
Primary Offensive formation: Multiple
Primary Defensive formation: 50
Notes:
* 5 year winning streak
- Mike Says: The Bears bring a lot back from a playoff team last year. This years team will once again be solid but just 1 win or loss could make the difference between 3rd place and 6th place in the district. It will be a fun one to watch. Look for them to win 5 to 7 games in the regular season and make the playoffs.
- Chris Says: Montgomery started off slow (0-2 pre-district) but things started rolling once they started their District 18-4A run. They ran into a buzz saw called Pflugerville Connally once the playoffs started but still turned in a fine season. Brenham will likely win the district, but expect the Bears to have another strong year and a playoff appearance. Once there, it comes down to matchup whether they win one or go home early.
