- Mike Says: The Rangers are always a solid team year in and year out and this year will be no different. They were back in 5A after a 2 year stint in 4A. They have 38 lettermen returning but not many of them were starters. Look for them to go 8-2 or 97-3 in the regular season fighting Converse Judson for the district title. After that they will go 1 or 2 rounds in the playoffs. They have big games against Brandeis and Madison.
- Chris Says: Larry Hill has been one of my favorite coaches for years... how can you argue with the success of this program and his staff? The big game is the first one for the Rangers - San Antonio Brandeis. After wiping the floor with Brandeis to start the season last year, Smithson Valley again proved how hard it is to beat a team twice in the same season when they lost a much closer game in the playoffs. SV will have very tough sledding in the rest of their games as well when they face San Antonio Madison and Converse Judson. Tradition alone will not win any of those games. Does Coach Hill have a surprise for the detractors who have written them off this season? We will see. I expect them to be in the hunt for the district title and the success of their season to come down to that second round playoff game once again.
