Teams Of The Decade

  • Texas high school footballMike Says: The Cavaliers stormed into Class 5A football last year by putting a shocking whipping on the Rockets. We have these teams ranked so closely you could flip a coin and feel good either way. If you want to see good football, go to this game. The Rockets will not forget what happened to them last year. This year it will not be as bad but they will still fall. Lake Travis is 1 ranking behind but they are the home team. The CAVALIERS win it 27-24!!

  • Texas high school footballChris Says: Last season's two losses were a freakish anomaly (Mike, that means 'something that is not normal') for the Austin Lake Travis Cavaliers.  When they played Converse Judson to open the season, it looked like smooth sailing when they trounced the Rockets 47-13.  The Cavaliers graduated a lot more starters than Converse Judson which has them both sitting nearly identical in our preseason ranking.  Despite the drubbing last season, I have a hard time seeing either one as a clear favorite.  It comes down to coin toss time for me... the verdict is - (I have to admit, Converse Judson won my coin toss, but at the last second, I changed it to Austin Lake Travis because they are at home.)  CAVALIERS lose the toss but win the game 21-17!!!
  • Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says: Each of these teams expects to win every game. And why not? They have 11 state titles between them. Lake Travis went down last year after winning five consecutive 4A titles (take that ‘Bama) and will be itching to get back to the top this season. However, give me the Rockets with a nice upset on the road. They have some of the best skill players in the state, and their linebackers have the talent to slow down the one-two punch of Shaun Nixon and Dominic Parker. Rockets in a 28-27 nail-biter.
