Dallas/Fort Worth area Texas high school football roundup
Fort Worth O.D Wyatt vs Samuell: 33-27 Fort Worth O.D Wyatt
An overtime thriller that saw these two teams traded blows like prize fighters. Neither team could find a clear advantage that they could capitalize on. Except one, Wyatt RB Javonte Adams, Adams carried the load with 34 carries for 278 yards, one of which was the game winning TD in overtime. The Wyatt defense deserves credit as well, stopping Samuell RB Keith Hill on a 4 & 2 to seal the win. Credit Samuell however they answered every scoring drive that Wyatt had, except in overtime, they just happened to be over powered against this Wyatt running attack.
Lewisville vs Irving: 22-20 Lewisville
Another close game this week had two evenly matched teams, so even that only 22 yards separated them on the boxscore. Lewisville controlled the game going into the fourth quarter, but Irving scored two touchdowns, a 31 yard run by RB Antonio Franklin and a 23 yard pass from Christian Garcia to Austin Parr, and intercepted QB Matt McDougal. It looked like Irving had swung the momentum their way till McDougal led his team down the field, converting a 4 & 27 with a 33 yard pass to Cameron Creal, to set up a 28 yard field goal for Tluang Hmung to win the game for the Lewisville Farmers.
Princeton vs Commerce: 42-0 Princeton
Princeton continues its dominance with this large victory over the Tigers. The story of the game wasn’t the offense, but the Panther defense. The Princeton defense held the Commerce offense to only 54 total yards. Quarterback Sam Wells only went 7-18 for 21 yards and an interception by Brendon Bowland that was returned for a TD. The top rusher for the Tigers was Jaystin Wilson who had 23 yards on 5 carries. Combined the Panthers held the entire Tigers team to 33 yards on 27 rushes. Princeton dominated this game and flexed their muscles in this blowout.
Mansfield Legacy vs Bryan Adams: 31-0 Mansfield Legacy
Other shutout this week by Mansfield Legacy showcased a terrific performance by QB Terrence Ivery of Mansfield Legacy who threw 8-11 for 179 yards and 2 TDs, but did most of his damage with his feet rushing for 208 yards on 11 rushes and a TD. Ivery seemed to know exactly what the Bryan Adams defense was doing being able to rush for about 19 yards per carry. Another outstanding performance by the RB Kenton Mayberry who had 185 yards on 28 carries and a TD. This offensive attack was too much for this Bryan Adams defense to handle, as the Broncos had 603 total yards for the game.
Mount Pleasant vs Terrell: 77-34 Mount Pleasant
Forty one points… in the first quarter! The Tigers showed up to play in their first game this year by exploding for 77 points in three quarters, not scoring in the fourth. QB Cullen Grubbs had a night to remember completing 20 of 30 passed for 490 yards and 9 touchdown passed, yes nine. Five of those TD passes went to WR Kaderius Cannon who had 9 catches for 271 yards. Terrell QB Michael Nelson had a nice game as well throwing for 224 yards on 17 of 31 passing and 3 TDs. Sadly his game was overshadowed by Cullen Grubbs and the Tiger offense that put up 661 yards of total offense.
Desoto vs Euless Trinity 61-35 DeSoto
After they each played two Oklahoma teams Euless Trinity and DeSoto squared off in a high-powered rivalry… kind of. This game was over at half time where DeSoto was leading 54-14. DeSoto’s offense was on fire having 599 total yards, majority of those coming in the first half. Also, QB Desmond White continue to shine completing 21 of 27 passes for 344 yards and 5 TDs. He also ran for 98 yards on 13 carries and a rushing TD. Another eerie game for Euless Trinity defense as they couldn’t seem to stop this DeSoto offense. If it wasn’t for Christian Hammack and Ja’Ron Wilson this game would have been a lot worse that it looked. Trinity now finds itself 0-2 something they haven’t seen since 2004 (DeDoto 29-21 & Midland Lee 56-32)
