Mike Says: Madison won a big one in week 0 over Cibolo Steele. They are looking like the team we predicted to play Allen in the championship game. Smithson Valley have played team all over the state having teams from Laredo and El Paso come play them. The Rangers are going for their 250th all-time win in this game and are at home. Their all-time record is 249-175-6 which is very impressive. Sorry, but they will not get #250 against Madison. The MAVERICKS win 34-20!!
Chris Says: This has turned into a great series because both programs are so darn strong. It is always a tough one for me to choose a winner because I like and respect both coaches so very much (Larry Hill - Smithson Valley, Jim Streety - San Antonio Madison.) The Rangers of Smithson Valley have done a lot better when they matchup but the fact remains that they are usually some amazingly tight games. In fact, a field goal in a couple of these games would take it from 7-3 Smithson Valley to 6-4 Madison. It is rare that I pick against Larry Hill and the Rangers, but San Antonio Madison is just showing so much talent this year. The MAVERICKS win 38-35!!
LSG Intern Zach Says: These teams are off to a hot start. Madison pulled out a nail-biter in Week 0 over a talented Cibolo Steele team, while the Rangers avenged last year’s playoff loss by creaming Brandeis 31-12. Like so many 5A quarterbacks, Cody Ennis is playing lights out and he has already proven he can handle the spotlight. I like him and WR Byron Daniels to stay hot. Mavericks 35-31.
LSG Intern William Says: . Madison came out of the gate swinging this year beating Cibolo Steele 46-45 and have dominated their other two opponents. On the other side Smithson Valley hasn’t seen much resistance against their high-powered offense, the closest game has been San Antonio Brandeis 31-12, they also won this matchup last year 49-24, but this Madison team is different than last years and I give them the edge. Mavericks win 45-42.
