Houston area Texas high school football roundup
More Katy:
In our “Game of the Week,” the Katy Tigers continued to show no mercy to the competition. This time it was against The Woodlands, the last team to beat them in the regular season. Running Back, Rodney Anderson continues to play out of his mind, rushing for 226 yards and 4 TD in the 37-14 victory. On the other side of the ball, the Tigers forced three turnovers.
Madison Wins Southside Classic in Dramatic Fashion: This year’s Southside Classic between Houston Madison and Houston Yates lived up to its name. After Anthony Martin tied it at 14 with less than a minute to go, it seemed Yates would break its five-year losing streak against the Marlins. Then a 27-yard reception and personal foul got Madison within striking distance, and QB Cameron Davis found Darrah Foreman in the back of the end zone for the game-winning score. It was Madison’s first win of the season.
North Shore Linebackers Come Up Big: Even with its offense fumbling it away six times, Galena Park North Shore found a way to hold off Katy Cinco Ranch. With their all-state leader Zack Whitley on the sideline, the Mustang linebackers recovered three fumbles and turned two into touchdowns. North Shore was eventually able to make some big plays in the 27-16 win, but the linebackers carried the load this time around. With Whitley expected to return next week, they will only get better.
Crosby Dominates Rival Barbers Hill: In a regular meeting between these two Class 4A rivals, Crosby displayed its athletic prowess in a 63-26 win over Barbers Hill. The Cougars got another standout performance from twins Austin and Aston Walter, who combined for 489 yards of offense and 6 TDs. The combination of these two and Railon Singleton have Crosby looking like a contender in District 19-4A.
Atascocita edges Klein: Running back, David Hamm ran for 306 yards but it was not enough to lead the Klein Bearkats past Atascocita. It took an incredible four overtimes but the Eagles finally pulled this one out on Greg Campbell’s 25-yard touchdown run. The quarterback both rushed and threw for over 200 yards, scoring five total touchdowns. The win pushes the Eagles to 3-0, and makes them an interesting sleeper in Class 5A.
Cy Springs Gets Long-Awaited Win over Cy Falls: For the first time since 2009, Cy Springs beat Cy Falls in a thrilling 20-18 victory. And it involved a bounce pass! Cy Falls quarterback Casey Rosellini threw the ball off the turf back to Xavier Moore, who then threw a 75-yard touchdown to make the score 20-18. The ensuing twopoint conversion failed, giving Cy Springs the win. Quarterback Troy Brown was the hero for the victors, throwing for 272 yards and rushing for another 158.
