Hwy 90 Showdown, 1604 Bowl, Gilmer vs. Daingerfield & Other Rivalries & Milestones
-
Updated: September 19, 2013
Week Three is already here and things are starting to get real. Games are starting to count with district play beginning. That means more rivalry games and milestones to go over.
For our rivalry games, we got Gilmer and Daingerfield which is usually a game of the week but Daingerfield has dropped a few games so we will see how this one goes. I would have not thought that Daingerfield would be at 1-3 at the end of the 4 weeks. This series is all tied up at 15-15 since 1982 but Gillmer has won 2 of their 3 playoff games and has won 10 of the last 11 games including the last 8 in a row.
Another great match-up to watch will be Lufkin vs. Longview. Lufkin lost a long time rivalry game last week to Nacodoches which they usually win. They lead this all time series against Longview 35-34-4, 4-3 playoffs.
In the "Cool Named Games" category, we have the Hwy 90 Showdown between Dayton and Crosby. Dayton leads this series 13-2 since 1998 including 2 playoff victories in 2006 & 2007 but Crosby looks to be the hot team this year.
Another rivalry with a great history and great name is the "1604 Bowl." Just three miles and state highway, Loop 1604 separates the San Antonio O'Connor Panthers and the San Antonio Brandeis Broncos. This game even has it's own YouTube trailer:
For school milestones, Odessa Permian will be playing in their 650th all-time game vs. Abilene. Who would have thought that these two once powerhouse teams would be a combined 1-5 on the season. Celina will be going for their 550th all-time win during their game against Texarkana Liberty-Eylau. Our Facebook fans kept us up to date last week with their exciting win over Argyle Liberty Christian.
Navasota has a chance at 2 milestones. They will playing for their 525th win and head coach Lee Fedora will be going for his 75th win with the Rattlers when they take on Lexington. That Rattler defense has only allowed 7 points this year.
Other Rivalries:

- Brenham 13-6 vs. Waller
