Top Weekly Performances in Texas High School Football 9/30/13
Dallas/Fort Worth:
Garland Christian’s deadly combo of QB Braxton Berry and WR Cam Robbins were red hot in a 55-31 win over Coram Deo. Berry threw for 581 yards and 8 touchdowns with Robbins hauling in 12 of those passes for 362 yards and 5 touchdowns. All Saints' Foster Sawyer threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns in 48-13 victory over ESD. Kelly Cordova threw for 297 yards and five scores and rushed for 81 more yards as Frisco Centennial whipped Little Elm 41-6. Jordan Stevenson (junior transfer from Dallas Skyline) rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns to lead South Oak Cliff to a 75-0 shutout of North Dallas. DeSoto also recorded a shutout, whitewashing South Grand Prairie 50-0, as QB Desmon White passed for 357, rushed for 133 and accounted for five touchdowns. Tre Mask rushed for 248 yards and scored 7 touchdowns as Sherman edged McKinney North 55-44. Ryan Agnew accounted for six touchdowns as Southlake Carroll whipped Keller Central 59-3. Agnew completed 17/20 passes for 219 yards and rushed for 106. Ervin Hill accounted for eight touchdowns in Arlington Sam Houston’s 61-51 win over Paschal. Hill rushed for 257 yards and 8 scores, while passing for 206 and three more. Xavier Turner rushed for 319 yards and scored six times to lead Birdville to a 72-7 win over Carter-Riverside. Allen’s defense came up big in a 31-10 win over Coppell, keeping the Cowboys out of the endzone until the final four minutes of the game. Rockwall lost star RB Chris Warren to injury, but stopped rival Heath five times inside the Red Zone to preserve a 24-20 victory. Cedar Hill beat Duncanville 23-6 with DE Xavier Washington recording five sacks and recovering one fumble. Argyle’s defense forced six turnovers in a 52-12 rout of Wilmer Hutchins.
East Texas:
The top game in East Texas matched 4A’s #1 team, Whitehouse, against 3A’s #1 team, Carthage. Carthage battled to a 39-20 lead with nine minutes to go in the third quarter, largely on the lethal passing combination of UTSA bound Blake Boggenschutz and WR duo of Tee Goree and Okerian Rutherford, but Whitehouse stormed back scoring 43 unanswered points on the strength of seven touchdown passes from Texas Tech bound Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes threw for 373 yards on the night, while Boggenschutz passed for 388. . Gilmer beat Gladewater 52-14 for the 17th straight time with Tanner Barr throwing four first half touchdowns. Sophomore Kris Boyd rushed for 163 yards for the Buckeyes. Longview spanked Mesquite 69-17 as Desmond Chumbley threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns, three of those TD passes going to Texas commit Dorian Leonard. Corsicana Mildred blew out Blooming Grove 40-0, with Draylon Sterling totaling 258 all- purpose yards and five touchdowns. Tyler John Tyler waxed a team from Nuevo Leon 51-14 with Geovari McCollister passing for 234 yards and rushing for 161. Junior Rashaan Donelson passed for 249 and rushed for 90 yards as Liberty-Eylau beat Van 27-17.
Central Texas:
Austin Bowie stunned Westlake 21-16, rolling to a 21-0 halftime lead and having to complete a 4th down conversion late to hold off the Chaps. Unbeated 3A Elgin beat 4A Hutto 64-14 with QB Te’Rel Simmons passing for 175 yards and five scores. Cedar Park went to overtime against Leander and clinched it on Lane Wallers 85 yard interception return in OT, 30-17. Hendrickson pounded Cedar Ridge 48-6 with Oklahoma bound Samaje Perine rushing for 177 yards. San Antonio heavyweights Smithson Valley and Cibolo Steele rolled to easy wins. Smithson Valley beat Corpus Christi King 61-18 while Steele rolled over San Marcos 51-7.
Houston:
Katy unveiled another sophomore RB in Kyle Porter. Porter rushed for 164 yards and three scores to lead the Tigers past Katy Morton Ranch 24-3. Texas City beat Goose Creek Memorial 42-16 as Texas commit D’Onta Foreman rushed for 224 yards and four tds. Pasadena Dobie beat South Houston 39-14 with two RB’s Adoniz Thomas and Daobie Stenline rushing for 177 and 164 yards respectively. Houston Worthing smashed Booker T. Washington 63-24 with sophomore QB Alfred Robertson passing for 364 yards and six touchdowns. Summer Creek outscored Crosby 63-49. Kansas State bound Aaron Sharp passed for 280 yards and five touchdowns for Creek, but the Walter twins (both Rice commits) had big nights for Crosby. Aston passed for 281 yards and three scores, rushed for 142 yards and one more score while Austin rushed for 155 yards, had 103 yards receiving and scored three times. Dayton sophomore Trayvon Williams had 264 yard rushing and 86 yards receiving in a 26-23 win over C.E. King. David Hamm rushed for 209 yards and scored twice as Klein beat Spring 38-21. Galena Park North Shore shutout Channelview 59-0 with junior Tristan Houston rushing for 162 yards and a touchdowns. Pearland Dawson beat Santa Fe 49-10, with Brett Winnegan rushing for 182 yards and two scores, while Tony Upchurch (LSU commit) had 164 yards receiving, 33 rushing, and scored twice himself. Cy Woods beat Cy Lakes 34-14 with Sam Stewart rushing for 247 yards and two scores. Alief Hastings beat Nimitz 20-16, having two backs, Joshua Wiggins and Dondrei Williams, both rush for over 175 apiece.
West Texas:
Weather played a big part in West Texas Friday night lights. The big 2A shootout between Canadian and Bushland was cancelled disappointing fans who wanted to see top QB’s Ben Arbuckle of Canadian and Taylor Cornelius of Bushland. Abilene Cooper and Odessa High started the second half at 11 pm because of lightning delay, with Cooper’s Lorenzo Joe rushing for 243 yards and three scores as the Cougars won 42-31. Big Spring’s Tobyn Tannehill passed for 186 yards and three scores as the Steers beat Seminole 45-14. Mickey Scott accounted for 346 yard and five scores as San Angelo Central upset Abilene 32-10. Jarek Black carried 35 times for 335 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shallowater past Idalou 38-14. Junior Jarrett Stidham passed for 344 yards and four touchdowns, rushed for 132 yds and 1 more score as Stephenville outscored Amarillo 64-42. Lubbock High beat Andrews 59-47, but not before Andrews QB Shane Dolgener put up 362 yards of total offense and accounted for six touchddowns.
