Mike Says: How many more tough games in a row is Chilton going to play? Well at least one more. The Pirates were impressive with wins over Bosqueville and Milano before falling to a tough Mart team last week. Wellington have been very impressive scoring more points each week so far. They started by scoring 22 in week 0, then 42, then 50, then 56, then 60 and finally 72 last week. I dont think Chilton is going to let The Skyrockets continue that trend. Wellington is very talented though with QB Klark Ashmore (1,104 yards passing), RB Terry Gilbreath (1,242 yards rushing 19 TDS) and LB Edgar Tellez averaging 10 tackles per game. Sounds like I am leaning towards Wellington right? You are right...the SKYROCKETS win it 35-14!!
Chris Says: Both these teams are rolling through their opponents but Chilton is doing it against slightly tougher teams. Sure, they lost to Mart, but it was a close game and Mart is a much better team than their 3-3 record. I know we have Wellington #1 and I agree they are a better team, I just can't rule out the work that Chilton has done. Wellington needs a test before playoffs or they will slip in an "easy" game. This is their chance to drop one and get things straight for their title run. PIRATES win 35-30!!
LSG Intern Zach Says: The Pirates will have to turn in the best performance of their season to knock off Wellington. The Skyrockets have the district’s three best players in QB Klark Ashmore, RB Terry Gilbreath and LB Edgar Tellez. As the premier team in 1A, they put up a lot of points and do not give up a whole lot on defense. All due respect to the Pirates, but these guys won’t get a real challenge until the playoffs.
LSG Intern William Says: Wellington has a very balanced attack led by seniors Klark Ashmore and Terry Gilbreath. While Ashmore has thrown for 1084 yards and 12 touchdowns, Gilbreath has now rushed for 1242 yards and 19 touchdowns this year and looks to continue his dominance against a good Chilton defense. However this defense may be outmatched against this high-octane offense. Skyrockets win 56-42.
LSG Writer Scott Says: Wellington storms into this one averaging 59.5 points over the past four games, including 72 last week in a victory over Quanah. Quarterback Klark Ashmore has over 1,000 passing yards this season with 12 TDs, but it Terry Gilbreath that grabs most of the headlines. Gilbreath (1,242 yards and 19 TDs, 18 yards per carry) has rushed for 614 yards and 10 TDs on 20 carries over the past two games. Chilton is coming off a loss to Mart and owns a victory this season over Bosqueville. Javarius Young and Charles Simpson lead the way for Chilton with more than 600 yards and 5 TDs, while Simpson has rushed for 6 TDs. Too much Gilbreath for Chilton to overcome in this contest, Wellington wins it 42-28.
