Texas high school footballMike Says: We were shocked in week 0 when the Scots fell to Aledo 44-3 but it turns out that Aledo is just that good. We said to not count the Scots out though and here they are sitting at 4-1. They will be tested by this very good Poteet team led by QB Lane Novy (1,411 yards passing) and LB Malik Jefferson (36 tackles 8 TFL). The Pirates are looking for a little revenge from last year. The had the game won but the Scots scored a touchdown with only 52 seconds left in the game to bring the score to 19-18 Poteet. The Scots went for 2 and made it to get a 20-19 victory. Both of these teams put up lots of points. Highland Park continues to dominate this series. The SCOTS win it 34-27!!

Texas high school footballChris Says: Dallas Highland Park is a better team than Mesquite Poteet.  I am sure that will ruffle some feathers aboard the Pirate ship, but its just how I see it.  Sure the Scots dropped the opener, but longtime readers will know that I put very little value on the opener - there are just too many variables in the first game.  Since that time, both teams have rolled through opponents and actually both turned in very similar games against their one in common - Forney.  Mesquite Poteet is the hands-down winner if this were a helmet contest, but it's not.  I have to go with Dallas Highland Park.  The SCOTS win the game 28-24!!

Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says: New head coach Kody Groves looks to keep his perfect record in tact when his Pirates travel to Dallas Highland Park. Groves has filled in nicely in Randy Jackson’s stead with all double-digit wins. He and his team get their first true test on the road against Randy Allen’s Scots. The Scots lost a lot of talent this offseason, but have bounced back after getting shellacked in their opener against Aledo. I like them to get their first big win of the season. Scots 38-35.

Texas high school footballLSG Intern William Says: Dallas Highland Parks only loss was to Aledo who is 5th in the state and seems to be killing everybody. Since that opening round loss Highland Park has averaged 49.75 points per game and have ripped their way through their schedule till this week. Mesquite Poteet has also steamrolled through their competition led by senior quarterback Lane Novy who has thrown for 1411 yards and 13 touchdowns. For Highland Park also has a gunslinger in junior quarterback who has thrown for 1193 yards and 8 touchdowns. This game is sure to be high-flying and have a lot of points on the board. Pirates win 52-45.

Texas high school footballLSG Writer Scott Says: Mesquite Poteet brings offense and plenty of it with averages of 49.4 points and 488 yards of total offense per contest. Lane Novy operates the controls for Poteet with 1,411 yards and 13 TDs thus far in 2013. Junior Jaylon Smith averages more than 100 yards per game on the ground to pace the Pirates. Highland Park is rolling following a season-opening loss to Aledo. Junior quarterback Brooks Burgin has over 1,400 total yards and 15 TDs this season. In a typical Texas shootout, Highland Park holds home field. Highland Park wins it, 44-41.
