Mike Says: This is the district opener and it will probably be for the district championship. Graham is led by QB Ben Davis one of the top passing QB's in the state with 1,649 yards passing. The Steer defense is led by LB Mikey Freeze with 49 tackles. For the Lions, star RB Orlando Haymon went down with an injury so the will rely on Danny Valverde if he cant go. Their defense is led by Corrie Luster who has 82 tackles on the season. The difference will be Steers will put the ball in the air and the Lion defense has only 2 INTs and 6 sacks on the season. The STEERS win it 35-20!!
Chris Says: This is another game that is misleading when you look at the records (11-1 combined.) Their opponents are a pile of fair to sub-par opponents. It is hard to go against Graham's QB, Ben Davis but I would have picked the Lions anyway. I "would" have but their leading runner, Orlando Haymon may not go. Injury aside, and this is Vernon's game. You don't play the games on paper though. Graham STEERS take the win 21-14!!
LSG Intern Zach Says: Man does it hurt losing Orlando Haymon. Vernon’s star tailback went down on his first carry against Gainesville and the offense was never the same on the way to a 27-18 loss. It doesn’t seem like he will be back for the Lions’ tilt with the Steers, and that spells disaster. Without one of the conference’s best backs, there is just no way Vernon can keep up with Ben Davis and that Graham offense. Steers 51-21.
LSG Intern William Says: Graham has a very successful passing game led by senior Ben Davis who has 1649 yards and 14 touchdowns and is averaging 274.8 yards a game they also have a solid running game led by Dillion Gonzales who has 723 yards and 13 touchdowns and is averaging 120 yards a game. For Vernon leading running back Orlando Haymon (918 yards and 14 TDs) was injured last week and if he isn’t 100% that will put a dent in the Vernon running game, by making Danny Valverde get the majority of the carries. With Haymon Vernon makes this game more interesting, without him, however Graham has the advantage. Steers win 48-32.
LSG Writer Scott Says: Quarterback Ben Davis and running back Dillon Gonzales lead the way for 6-0 Graham. Davis has 1,649 yards and 22 total TDs on the season, while Gonzales has 1,152 total yards (723 rushing) and has reached the end zone 16 times. Meanwhile, Vernon cannot be slighted for its 27-18 loss to Gainesville last week. Orlando Haymon, who has rushed for 918 yards and 14 TDs this season and averages 16.4 yards per carry, only had one carry for a touchdown and left the game with an injury midway through the first quarter. Obviously, this game will depend on the status of Haymon. Graham wins it, 42-35.
