Pearland OilersMike Says:  These two teams have only played one quality opponent between the two of them and that was when Manvel took on North Shore. Other than that, they have been blowing teams out. The combined record of all of their other opponents is 31-89. Both defenses have been solid with Manvel only giving up 79 points while Pearland has only given up 27 points. The key to this game will be the Manvel passing game. They are pretty balanced with 237 yards passing and 203 yards rushing per game. The Pearland defense is really good against the pass with almost 4 sacks a game and 1.5 INT's per game. The winner of that battle wins the game. The OILERS win it 28-21!!

Pearland OilersChris Says: This has to be my absolute favorite matchup in the Houston area.  At first blush it looks like a knock-down drag-out between two powerhouse teams... but is it?  District 22-5A is very top heavy - it really just comes down to these two teams.  In fact, it comes down to this game.  The problem with it being such a top heavy district is that neither team has played many strong opponents.  I love Manvel, but Pearland has a little more going for them this season.  OILERS extend the win streak 35-28!!

Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says: To me, this is the best game of the week. This is the battle for District 22-5A between two teams that excel on both sides of the ball. Pearland’s JaColbie Butler is absolutely electric with the ball in his hands, with a defense backing him that has only given up 27 points on the whole season. Manvel has dominating in similar fashion, led by probable District MVP Deriq King. I like the Mavericks for two reasons. First being that they are at home, and second being that I believe we have overreacted to Pearland. Yes the Oilers have been dominant, but who have they really played? The answer is exactly one team with a winning record, while Manvel’s only blemish is a 24-20 loss to some school called North Shore. I like King to atone for that lone loss and prove why he is the best in the district. Mavericks 36-35.

Pearland OilersLSG Intern William Says:  Manvel has a tough test against a rock solid defense in the Pearland Oilers defense that averages 3.6 turnovers a game and a Pearland Oilers team that boasts a +22 turnover margin. The Oilers defense has also yet to yield 150 total yards against any team and has held three teams to 50 yards or less this year. Manvel has the offensive firepower to break that streak thanks to sophomore quarterback Deriq King who, despite lacking experience, has only thrown four interceptions and has 26 total touchdowns (22 pass, 4 rush). Manvel may have the size and speed to keep up with Pearland, but not the experience. Oilers win 32-17.

Texas high school footballLSG Writer Scott Says:  Pearland’s defense has been outstanding this season, posting four shutouts en route to an 8-0 record while allowing just 3.4 points per game. In an outstanding Texas running back class in 2015, JaColbie Butler deserves to be on the list. Butler has 864 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 11.5 yards per tote. Manvel is loaded. Its only loss this season Galena Park North Shore all it could handle in Week 1 before falling 24-20. Manvel’s defense has posted two shutouts this season. Sophomore Reggie Hemphill is a delightful talent. The Texas commit has eight touchdown grabs this season and averages 21 yards per catch. Manvel is a dangerous team. Manvel outlasts Pearland in another classic, 17-14.
