Mike Says: Now, this is a rivalry. The series standings is lopsided but the Cinco Ranch fans always show up for this one and it is always standing room only. The Cougars are led by QB Luke Klingler and DB Trent Soechting (9.5 tackles per game). Katy is led by a couple of Sophomores in DB Collin Wilder (4 INTs) and RB Kyle Porter (1,067 yards rushing). Both defenses are pretty tough but the Katy offense will continue to churn out yards on the ground while the Cinco offense will not be able to get through and that is when turnovers happen. The TIGERS win it 35-14!!
Chris Says: Really, is anyone going to pick against the Katy Tigers? Yes, I know that Cinco Ranch is rocking along - but come on... they are not in the same category. Sure, a few years back (when Cinco Ranch won this game and the district) they were close in talent, but not this year. There are those who say, "hey, its a rivalry game so anything can happen," and while I normally put a lot of stock in that - I just can't this year. Not because Cinco Ranch is that far below them in ambition and drive, but because Katy already had their near miss against Seven Lakes. That won't happen again. Katy TIGERS take it 28-21!!
LSG Intern Zach Says: Yes, Cinco Ranch is a good football team. Yes the Cougars deserve more recognition for their undefeated district record. No they are not going to beat the Katy Tigers on Saturday. Just like our other GOTW between Aledo and Granbury, the favorite in this matchup can beat you in too many different ways. The Tigers have been without All-District RB Rodney Anderson for much of the season, only to watch Kyle Porter come in replace his production to a tee. That’s the type of depth the Tigers have, and is just one of the reasons why they can go undefeated this season. Tigers 42-21
LSG Intern William Says: Katy escaped two weeks ago 17-12 against Katy Seven Lakes, but returned to form against Houston Strake Jesuit winning 49-7. Cinco Ranch, who dropped a game to North Shore earlier this season, upset Seven Lakes last week 28-14 thanks to their stingy defense. Cinco Ranch may have the defense to slow Katy down allowing only 262.87 yards per game and seems to get better each week. Katy running back Rodney Anderson also missed his fourth straight game last week which could make things interesting and give Cinco Ranch an opportunity. However Katy has 46 straight regular season wins for a reason and is looking to expand. Tigers win 24-20.
LSG Writer Scott Says: Katy has another foe from inside its borders after getting all it could handle from Seven Lakes earlier this season. Kyle Porter has replaced the injured Rodney Anderson and passed the test with flying colors, rushing for 1,059 yards and 15 touchdowns. Katy’s defense has allowed just 4.9 points per game as the Tigers clearly deserve to be in the 5A discussion along with Allen and DeSoto. Luke Klingler has thrown for 1,276 yards and 14 touchdowns this season to lead Cinco Ranch to a 5-0 start in district play. The defense has allowed 17 points in four weeks. Katy is too good for Cinco Ranch, but it should be a dandy. Katy wins it, 27-14
