Texas high school footballMike Says: I circled this game in pre-season as one to watch but with Westlake starting the season at 2-3 it kind of took the shine off of this game. If the Chaparrals are going to live up to our pre-season Division II Championship prediction this will be the game to start things off with. The Cavaliers have been rolling since their opening week loss to Converse Judson. They have a balanced offensive attack with 193 yards in the air and 177 rushing yards per game. Lake Travis is on a 5 year winning streak in this series and this year they will make it 6. The CAVALIERS win it 32-21!!

Texas high school footballChris Says:  This is one of those games that feels like a last chance for Austin Westlake.  There was so much optimism surrounding the team before the season started but, as they say, "that's why they play 'em."  The Chaps have managed to lose all the wrong games while still looking every bit a strong team... it is time to see what this Westlake team is all about.  A win here could put them back on the radar and more importantly, cause the players to believe in themselves enough to make a solid playoff run.  A loss could point to an early postseason departure.  Austin Westlake is not about to roll over and play the Goliath as David makes one mighty stone throw.  The CAVALIERS take care of business at home 49-20!!

Texas high school footballLSG Intern Zach Says: Really can’t understand why there has been such a dropoff from Westlake. I know they had a tough opening schedule, but never would have thought they’d enter district with two losses. Then they fall to Bowie? With all that returning talent, the Chaparrals have to be the most disappointing team in 5A. They can right the ship this week with a win over Lake Travis. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers have been humming behind MVP-favorite Shaun Nixon. They passed a major test in dismantling the same Bowie team that knocked off the Chaparrals, and they will put a stranglehold on this district with this win on Friday. Cavaliers 45-35.

Austin WestlakeLSG Intern William Says: Austin Westlake may be 5-3, but all three losses have come to the hands of three 7-1 teams (Cedar Park, Cibolo Steele, Austin Bowie) so their season is far from over as they have a chance to beat the fourth team they have faced with a record 7-1 in Austin Lake Travis. Like most Austin area teams each of these squads have a couple of gunslingers in the backfield. For Westlake quarterback Jordan Severt has 1663 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. A cause for concern could be the 55% completion percentage that he has. Lake Travis has quarterback Dominic De Lira who has 1424 yards and 15 touchdowns. The X-factor in this game will be the secondary for each team. Westlake’s secondary has 13 interceptions verses the Lake Travis secondary which has 5. That’s the edge I can see in this game. Chaparrals win 42-41.

Texas high school footballLSG Writer Scott Says: Do not write off Westlake, no matter the outcome of this capital city battle. Westlake finished 6-4 last season before embarking on a run to the 5A-II semifinals. Westlake still has quarterback Jordan Severt, an SMU commit, at the controls. Severt has quietly complied a nice season, throwing for 16 touchdowns compared to one interception. Lake Travis has Texas A&M verbal Shaun Nixon and his 19 rushing touchdowns. Zach Davies is another standout player on defense for the Cavaliers. Lake Travis wins this one, 35-25.
