After some initial confusion on the exact tally, Laredo Alexander wide receiver Marc Lozoya did indeed set the Texas high school state receiving for receiving yards in a game. The story was originally reported on Twitter by Texas HS Football. Multiple media outlets including MaxPreps and the Laredo Morning Times, reported that Lozoya caught 17 passes for 454 yards, and six touchdowns.
The previous state record was set last season by Robbie Rhodes, Fort Worth Southwest.
Lozaya's correct total was 448-yards in the 63-35 victory over Eagle Pass Winn on Thursday night. Lozoya caught 16 passes and scored six touchdowns in his record-setting performance. These totals were confirmed Friday morning by Laredo NBC affiliate Pro 8 News. Lozoya was nine yards short of the national record set by Waldport (Ore.) receiver Kraig Pruett in 2012.
Alexander quarterback Aaron Swain put up equally gaudy numbers. Swain finished 23 of 30 for 532 yards and seven touchdowns in the rout. The junior is quietly putting together an outstanding 2013 campaign with 1,983 passing yards and 16 touchdowns, compared to just three interceptions. Swain threw for 3,113 yards and 29 touchdowns as a sophomore.
For the season, Lozoya now has 41 receptions for 917 yards and 12 touchdowns as the Bulldogs moved to 5-2 on the season.
